Alberta forest history film premieres in Alberta, shown across Canada

On the evening of Monday June 20, 2005, the Hotel Macdonald's Empire Ballroom hosted a celebration of Alberta's forests at the gala premiere showing of Alberta: A Centennial Forest History. More than 150 representatives from the Canadian and Alberta governments, forest industry leaders, and other special guests gathered to view this chronological story examining the many intertwined threads that form the history of this significant natural resource.

New provincial forest management rules provided for public comment

The Alberta Government wants input from Albertans on modifications to forest planning requirements that regulate how the forest industry prepares forest management plans and operates on the public landbase. The last revision took place in 1998 to form the Interim Forest Management Planning Manual.

Government of Alberta Announces Actions for Woodland Caribou

On June 23, 2005, the Alberta Government announced a new plan designed to increase protection for woodland caribou, a species regarded as threatened in the province. The steps and recommendations are contained in the Alberta Woodland Caribou Recovery Plan.

Foothills Model Forest AGM Showcases Important Advancements

On June 22, 2005, the Foothills Model Forest held their Annual General Meeting and Research Forum in Edmonton. The day was dedicated to 14 presentations from leaders in various areas, including: the Canadian Model Forest Network; Communications and Extension; Aboriginal Involvement; Natural Disturbance; and, Grizzly Bear Research to name a few highlights.
