The Medium is not the Message

There's been no lack of discussion lately about the use of this sourcing medium or that. Is Twitter better than Facebook? Are niche job boards more effective than general ones? And so on. These are all important questions, to be sure, but the media we select represent just one-half of a successful sourcing strategy. The other half is the message we deploy on those media, and with apologies to Marshall McLuhan, that message has its own distinct purpose and value.

Career Connections is the career magazine for U of A students. Published by CAPS: Your U of A Career Centre, it has a circulation of 12,000 throughout the U of A community. While students are the target audience, the magazine is widely read by staff and faculty of the university in all departments.  Career Connections is put into the hands of all students and alumni who attend any of the six career fairs that CAPS annually holds. It is also circulated to students who attend any of the career education programming that CAPS delivers year-round. Your ad will be seen by students and alumni who are engaged in searching for work.
