Federal Digital Economy Consultations...
A Voice for BC’s ICT Sector
At the recent Canada 3.0 conference, the federal government launched their consultation process to develop a Digital Economy Strategy for Canada. As promised in the 2010 budget, the federal government is seeking to develop a strategy that will "enable the ICT Sector to create new products and services, accelerate the adoption of digital technologies and contribute to improved cyber security practices by industries and consumers".
As the voice of BC’s technology industry, the BCTIA is developing a formal submission, due July 9. This submission will build on previous position papers that we have developed with input from our members including excerpts from the Advanced Technology paper, prepared as part of the Business Council of BC Outlook 2020 Discussions, and our recent TechTalentBC labour demand study.
In preparation for the consultations, the federal government has drafted a very good discussion paper that is split into 5 sections; each section asking very pointed discussion questions. The BCTIA submission will focus on two key sections: Growing the information and communication technology industry, and building digital skills for tomorrow.
Your input is requested to develop this paper. We need you to help fine-tune the recommendations and add real-world experience and evidence that supports the claims and recommendations outlined in the BCTIA paper.
