This summer CKUA Radio is proud to participate in Doors Open Edmonton and the Edmonton Historic Festival. We will be offering free, one hour guided tours between July 9th -17th.
Discover the historic Alberta block and see the fascinating growth of Canada’s oldest public broadcaster. From our humble beginning over 80 years ago with a burlap sack ‘sound-proofed’ studio, a second-hand piano and a few wind powered transmitters, to becoming Canada’s first online radio station, and see how CKUA Radio operates today.
Explore our six stories of libraries, studios, performance rooms and even the basement which is full of records of all sizes, reel to reel audio tapes and where our resident ghost is most likely to be found!
CKUA tours will run July 9-11 and July 16-17 at 1:00 pm with an additional time on Fridays, July 9 and 16 at 4:30pm. For more information please contact Erin at 780-428-2012 or register online at ckua.com.

CKUA Employs Summer Students

CKUA summer interns Brandy Huff and Erin Polowy
Hello, I’m Brandy, the CKUA Marketing Intern. This summer you will find me at many music festivals where I will be updating CKUA fans through Facebook, Twitter and a summer blog. I am originally from a town called Kearney in Northern Ontario. Before moving to Edmonton, I spent five years living and working in Toronto at The Second City (the world's premier comedy theatre and school of improv). I am currently completing the Arts & Cultural Management program at Grant MacEwan University.
Hi, I’m Erin - the new Fund Development Intern - and I’m excited to be here at CKUA Radio. This summer you will find me making tons of phone calls, doing lots of research and writing, helping out with some events, and working on the Edmonton Historic Festival tours of CKUA’s awesome building - with some occasional ghost hunting. I look forward to my time here and maybe you’ll get a call from me this summer!
CD of the Week - Jack Johnson's To The Sea
Reviewed by Lionel Rault, host of Nine to Noon and One Headlight
Although not an earth-shatteringly different approach from his earlier four CD's, Jack Johnson's latest outing To the Sea represents a gravitation towards a harder-edged sound and a welcome bit of up-tempo intensity.
