Employer Relations Profile: Tonya Seto

Over her 7 year career as an Employer Relations Advisor with CAPS: Your U of A Career Centre, Tonya Seto has worked with employers from numerous industries and sectors, including public, private, local, national and international organizations to develop and coordinate campus recruitment strategies that best connect with students and alumni.  In addition to general campus recruitment, she also works with employers interested in participating in special campus employment programs such as the Agriculture, Life and Environmental Sciences (ALES) Internship program and the International Student Work Study program (ISWSP) to enhance student learning and career development opportunities.   Tonya has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alberta and began her journey with CAPS while completing her studies working part time as a Career Peer Educator facilitating career education opportunities and individual consultations for students.

When asked what she most enjoys about working with employers, Tonya says she is always amazed at the diversity of career opportunities available that she had no idea existed when she was a student.  Each employer has different needs and she enjoys working with them to come up with a strategy that best achieves their goals.  She remembers herself at graduation thinking, okay now what do I do and where do I go, so to help employers make students aware of the opportunities available and start them out on their personal career paths is exciting.

Tonya enjoys traveling and being active in her community.  She currently sits as an executive on a condominium Board of Directors and as a committee member for the 2010 Canadian Association of College and University Student Services (CACUSS) annual conference.
