Get your motor runnin’ and support CKUA Radio!

CKUA Radio is excited to announce a new fundraising initiative. We’re raffling off a Harley-Davidson® 2010 XL Nightster and a Coffee-Connoisseur dream package.
You might be wondering – what in the world does a Harley have to do with listener supported radio?
Eric Bergenstein, owner of Harley-Davidson of Fort McMurray and long-time supporter of CKUA, wanted to do something special for our radio station and he approached us about sponsoring a Harley motorcycle. It was such a great offer and opportunity, we were thrilled to accept. As well, Transcend Coffee, also long-time friends and supporters of CKUA Radio, decided to help out by sponsoring an impressive, upscale Coffee-Connoisseur package.
Those who are serious about their bikes know that they each have a personality, and as such, they need a name. Our Facebook community gave us plenty of suggestions to choose from and with the help of Lionel Rault and Baba we chose the name CANDY as suggested us by Vicki Love from Edmonton.
Tickets for the raffle are now on sale. More details are at ckua.com/harley. Buy your tickets before January 24 to be eligible for the early bird draw.
CKUA Celebrates a Commercial Free Holiday
It’s a commercial free zone at CKUA this Christmas and New Years. From 6pm on Dec 24th to 6am on December 27th and from 6pm on December 31st to 6am January 2nd, CKUA will free up its advertising air space to make room for more music.
We’re hoping to restore some of the balance from the bombardment of advertising – from the web, TV and OTHER radio stations – that people experience leading up to the holiday season.
So, relax, de-stress and enjoy the gift of commercial free holiday programming!

Statistics show that donations of all kinds have been on a steady decline since 2009 across Canada. And it is predicted that 2010 will be the toughest year for charities during this recession.
What is CKUA doing about it?
CKUA is making all efforts to cut costs: Strict budgets are being adhered to and we are diligently watching our bottom line. In addition to this, CKUA is actively pursuing additional funding opportunities from grant funding to our upcoming raffle.

Scenes From the Library
The CKUA LP Library Launch!

The CKUA LP collection, which is one of the largest LP Libraries in Canada, with approximately 50,000 LPs in the collection, has undergone a transformation in the last two years. Donations of LPs that have been stored in various places in the CKUA building have been sorted and catalogued, and the vast collection (sans Classical LPs, which are still housed in the basement), has been amalgamated into one LP Library on the main floor of the building. In this newly launched LP Library room, one can find male and female singers, groups, jazz and big band, world music, musicals and soundtracks, instrumental music, Christmas music, marching bands, poetry, plays, and comedy. As well, the entire magazine collection (with some collections, such as Billboard Magazine, going back to the 1980’s) is now in this room, as well as music books, a DVD collection, two turn tables, a DVD/ TV player, couches, the CKUA Archives … and a partridge in a pear tree (actually, recycled CD decorations with staff pictures on them, on a Balsam Fir Christmas tree)!

CKUA staff will launch the CKUA LP Library by holding the annual staff Christmas party there. With one of Canada’s largest LP collections within easy reach, and with many music specialist DJs on hand, it would be safe to say that it could potentially be one of the most serendipitously rich evenings of DJ-ing for a staff Christmas party in Canada this year!
