Message from the GM

You've got a friend in me
You've got a friend in me
When the road looks rough ahead
And you're miles and miles
From your nice warm bed
Just remember what your old pal said
Boy, you've got a friend in me …

- You’ve Got a Friend in Me (Words & Music by Randy Newman)

Trust Randy Newman to capture the essence of friendship in a few simple words. I mention the idea of relationships because as CKUA kicks off our Early Bird draws and gears up for our Spring Campaign, April 17 – May 3, we think a lot about friendship and what it means.

You hear us say CKUA couldn’t exist without your financial contribution – which is true. But the fact that CKUA has such a strong relationship with its listeners is remarkable. After all, there are lots of stations offering many different kinds of music out there. So what is it about this station that causes people like you to care enough to support CKUA?

Maybe it’s simply what’s said in that gentle little song - CKUA is a friend to you. Whether you listen at home, in your car or office, or whether you’re "miles and miles from your nice warm bed", CKUA offers you quality music and information programs that entertain and enlighten, hosts whom you can trust and who respect your intelligence, and genuine, meaningful companionship wherever you go.

We count on friends like you to keep this unique Albertan radio treasure strong by making a pledge of financial support. And thanks to our friends in the business community, we have some incredible campaign prizes for which you can qualify – including a deluxe 17 day guided trip for two to Vietnam. If you pledge now, you can also qualify to win our Early Bird draw for an iPod Touch.

As one of your CKUA friends, I ask you to please pledge now, and show your support, because you’ve got a friend in CKUA.

Ken Regan
General Manager

Showing the love with amazing prizes

We know you don’t need prizes to donate to CKUA, but… it’s pretty great to get a chance to win something – don’t you think?

Donate before midnight, April 19th and be eligible to win our Early Bird prize – 1 of 4 iPod Touch devices, featuring video, mp3, podcast, games, and a full html web browser over wi-fi connection.

The Mid-point Campaign prize is an inclusive trip with the Roots on the Rails. Journey with Tom Russell, Wylie Gustafson, Sourdough Slim and Gretchen Peters into the magical San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado and Northern New Mexico on the last great example of steam-era railroading.

The Grand Prize is a 17-day deluxe guided tour of Vietnam. Vietnam’s warm climate and the natural beauty of its beaches, lush mountain forests, waterfalls, and friendly and hospitable people will provide wonderful experiences and many fond memories.

Corporate Matching = Doubling Your CKUA Support

One easy way to DOUBLE your support for CKUA is to ask your employer about corporate matching. There are many companies who will show support for non-profit organizations that are of interest to their employees by matching the employee’s donation – essentially DOUBLING your contribution. The benefits to CKUA’s diverse programming are tremendous.

Is your employer one of the many companies that matches donations? Ask your human resources department. The Fund Development Office is happy to help you work through the materials required to have your support matched, just give us a call at 1-800-494-2582.
